What If (Flash-Forward)
Mommy sat up all night thinking about you and the kind of future we would've had. There would be pictures taken everyday, we would definitely be in a department store shopping for clothing/shoes; and whatever you ask for, you would get it. Mommy's not a no person (just look at your first cousin, Damonie lol!!). The overall solution is . . . YOU'VE WOULD'VE BEEN ONE SPOILED ROTTEN PRINCESS . . . but it would all be worth it. If it were possible; after seeing my stretch marks, swollen feet, and weight gain, I would go through all of that just to have you in my arms again.
This blog that I'm writing may not make sense to most; but I don't care, this is what I do. I've been writing since I was thirteen years old; and I now have another reason to continue expressing my true feelings. It's you, Heavenly. I could cry right now, but I'm imagining you wiping my tears away and saying "It'll be okay mommy, don't cry".
FLASH FORWARD (Short Story)
It's six years into the future and Heavenly-Miracle is in the 1st grade at North Vista Elementary School. It's also the end of the third semester, meaning that report cards have come out. Her teacher, Mrs. Best decides to wait until the end of class to pass them out. She then would make her "end of the day speech"; and after that, it would be time to go home.
After passing out all report cards: she makes her speech (which seemed to take forever in a day), then dismisses the class.
"See you later, Mrs. Best" Heavenly says after stuffing her report card into her backpack.
"Bye, Heavenly" she says with the biggest smile on her face.
At approximately 2:50 pm (just like everyday), the school bus drops Heavenly off in the front of her house. Her mother Kiara and her aunt Nikki is waiting for her on the front porch.
"Mommy, auntie, look what I got!" she says while stepping off of the bus.
Kiara puts her newspaper down, rushes to the middle of their large yard, and gives her daughter a hug and a kiss. Then, they walk to the porch together and takes a seat on the second step.
"Hello, auntie" Heavenly sang an octave up from her usual soprano-speaking voice.
"Hey boo . . ." she greets her only niece, ". . . You had fun at school today?"
"Yes ma'am" she replied before opening her bookbag and flashing her report card in their faces.
". . . Let me see what my baby got going on" Kiara said as she tears open the envelope.
She unfolds the yellow paper and puts on a smile so big it formed tears in her eyes. WIth worry in her eyes, Heavenly takes her mother's left hand in hers and squeezes it.
"Are you okay?" she asks Kiara.
". . . Yes" she says to her daughter, ". . . Mommy is just so proud of you"
"I'm proud of you too" Heavenly responds.
"You're proud of me . . .?" Kiara asks her, "What'd I do?"
"For going to school and getting your degree" Heavenly said.
Before any other conversation between mother and daughter could be exchanged, the house phone rings. Kiara looks at the caller i.d. and sees that it's someone from the schoolhouse calling.
"Hello?" she says into the receiver.
"May I speak to Ms. Edwards please?" Heavenly's teacher, Mrs. Best, asked her.
"She's speaking . . ." Kiara replies.
"Hello Ms. Edwards, ". . . I just got out of a faculty and staff meeting this afternoon and we've come to a decision about your daughter and I want to get your permission before we move forward"
"What was the meeting about?" Kiara asked Mrs. Best.
"Heavenly seems to be a little advanced for the first grade" Mrs. Best told her, "If I told you that we were thinking about skipping her to the third grade next year, what would you say?"
"Cool beans!" Heavenly says.
". . . Wow!" she said while looking in her daughter's eyes, "Third grade?"
"Yes ma'am . . ." she replied, "She has the second highest test scores in the school and she's already reading on a fourth-grade level . . . better than some of the others . . ."
"I mean . . . I guess" Kiara replies in a contemplative manner.
"Please mommy" Heavenly begs her mother, ". . . Please"
"Do you think you're ready for the big girl class?" Kiara asked her.
"Well grandaddy says you'll never know until you try" she says, quoting her 'Pah-Pah' Nick.
". . . That's right" Kiara says before giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm not asking you to make a fast decision if you're not ready, Ms. Edwards" Mrs. Best explains to her, ". . . Since there's no school tomorrow or Thursday, why don't we meet after school in my classroom to discuss Heavenly's progress".
"That'd be great . . ." Kiara replies, "Thanks for calling Mrs. Best . . . bye"
"Bye" Mrs. Best replies before ending the call.
"What was that phone call about?" Nikki asks Kiara.
"Your niece will officially be a third grader next year" Kiara responds excitedly.
"Good job, mama!" Nikki says to Heavenly.
"Thank you, auntie!" Heavenly says to Nikki, ". . . Can we go to Chuckie Cheese?"
"You can go wherever you wanna go . . ." Nikki tells her baby girl.
"Well I wanna go to the mall, out to eat, the movies, and to get my ears pierced . . ." she says before getting up and following her aunt and mother into the house.
You see baby girl? No would never be an option to you . . . well, unless it's something you don't need. Anywho . . . rest in peace, sweetie. Mommy loves you always and forever!
